On Friday, October 6, members of Wood River Vision 20/20 attended the Step Forward awards in Lincoln. The ceremony recognized exemplary volunteers across the state who have given their time and talents to make their communities better. Wood River Vision 20/20, formed in 2014, received the Volunteer Group Award. A community needs assessment survey identified lacking resources such as housing, childcare, and a community pool. The group worked to open the Wood River Aquatic Center in 2018, the Stick Creek Kids Child Development Center in 2021, and aided with a community-wide effort to refurbish eleven owner-occupied homes in the community. Roughly one year ago, community leaders launched the Legacy Station Capital Campaign to ambitiously raise $2.5 million. Funds will be used to renovate the south half of the former nursing home into a new senior citizens center, a greatly expanded public library space, provide a permanent home for the Wood River Ministerial Association’s food pantry, and add a storm shelter to improve public safety. Finally, all services will be ADA accessible and welcoming to all.
The Shelton High School Athletic Hall of Fame and the Shelton Baseball Hall of Fame are happy to announce the next inductees to the halls of fame. The Class of 2023 will consist of athletes Leo (Tony) Winey (1949), Luke Glenn (2013) and Kalyn Brannagan (2013), and longtime coach and athletic director Ron Blase (1984-2019). On the baseball side, the 2014 Shelton/Gibbon Senior Legion state champion team will be honored along with players Matt Gangwish and Scott Holley for their 1990-1993 seasons.
