Open house to honor 45th anniversary

The family of Jeff and Patricia Westberg are hosting an open house in honor of the couple’s 45th wedding anniversary. The open house will be held Sunday, August 24, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church-Lowell, 2294 X Road, Kenesaw. Jeff Westberg and Patricia Hyke were married August 23, 1980. Shelton’s Runyan earns astrophotography awards at 32nd Nebraska Star Party

Local astronomer and astrophotographer Bob Runyan earned a pair of medals at the 32nd Annual Nebraska Star Party held July 20 through 25 south of Valentine at Merritt Reservoir. This year’s event saw record attendance with 430 enjoying their time exploring the night skies. Mr. Runyan’s pair of photos of solar activity on the sun garnered him a second place medal in the Solar System Imaging category. He was also a recipient of a third place medal in the Smart Telescopes/Electronic Assisted category for a photo of the Pelican Nebula which is located an estimated 1,800 light years away from Earth in the constellation Cygnus. The contest featured five astrophotography categories with 75 photos submitted with a registered online voting system. (–photo by Steve Glenn)

Berglund receives Breakout Athlete of the Year award at NWU’s WESPYs

At the WESPYs held this spring at Nebraska Wesleyan University, Emmilly Berglund, of Shelton, received the Breakout Athlete of the Year award. The WESPYs are a celebration of NWU’s athletic program and its student-athletes, recognizing their dedication and success throughout the year. It’s a night where outstanding athletes are recognized for their achievements.
