A ribbon cutting ceremony and open house was held on Wednesday, July 9, for the Dunn Building Apartments at 106 East Ninth Street in Wood River. The renovated building features three new upper story apartments and was made possible by collaborative efforts between the City of Wood River, Nebraska Department of Economic Development (NDED), South Central Economic Development District (SCEDD), and Nebraska Affordable Housing Trust Fund. Wood River’s St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelton recently welcomed Reverend Father Stanley Ejike Madubuike as the new priest for both congregations. Father Stanley replaced the departed Father Josh Brown who served as priest for the churches over the past few years.

A small fawn takes a break from checking irrigation pipes earlier this week in a corn field near Shelton. Corn fields in Clipper Country have used recent rains to stretch toward the sky quickly and have begun to show tassels. The United States Department of Agriculture crop progress report last week reported that, on average, ten percent of corn has reached the silking stage, behind 18% last year and equal to the ten percent for the five year average.
