After signing a contract to begin the process of purchasing a new ambulance in May of 2022, the Gibbon Volunteer Fire Department received its new unit on Thursday, May 15, according to Gibbon Fire Chief Rick Brown. Chief Brown said that the department has 2009 and 2016 units. The new unit replaces the 2009 model, which will be sold. He related that the department has been saving for a new unit since right after purchasing the 2016 vehicle and when the new unit was ordered, it was expected that it would take at least 24 months to receive it. “There are a lot of new features that come with a new one,” explained Chief Brown. “It’s a bigger truck on an F550 chasis and has air ride suspension and we purchased a power load cot to help with lifting the cot.” (–courtesy photo)

With summer now poised to begin in earnest, it is once again time to gear up for the annual Shelton Independence Day celebration. Organizers are encouraged to contact the Clipper at info@clipperpubco. com as soon as possible with details on events being planned for the day.

Wood River Rural School and OPAA! will be offering free breakfast and lunch for any child, aged 18 and under, to take home from June 23 through August 1. Children do not need to qualify for the Free/Reduced Lunch Program or even be students of Wood River Schools! Children will be required to sign up, to help with food preparation. Meals will be picked up from the Wood River Elementary Cafeteria, 1003 Lilly Street, one to two times a week. Children must come on the pick up day and be accompanied by an adult to make sure food is properly refrigerated, once it leaves the school.
