After the smoke cleared at the C-8 District meet held at Ord on Thursday, May 9, Gibbon senior Carla Murillo Corona had earned the opportunity to compete at the NSAA State Track and Field Championships next week in Omaha. Murillo-Corona is the lone Gibbon athlete to earn a trip to the state meet this season.
Kyra Wooden and Calvin Zimmerman paved the way to the opportunity to compete on the state level as they qualified at the District C-6 meet held at Centennial on Thursday, May 9. As a team, the Centura boys placed seventh out of ten teams competing with 34.50 points and the Lady Centurions were eighth out of the ten teams participating with 29 points. The St. Paul boys were district champions with 102.50 team points and the Aquinas Catholic ladies won the girls side of the district meet with 88 team points.
The Shelton girls and boys track and field teams competed on Wednesday, May 8, at the Class D-5 District Track and Field meet in Fullerton as they tried to punch their ticket to the state meet.
Both the Wood River boys and girls track and field teams had very productive days at the Centura Invitational on Thursday, May 2.
The Wood River Rural High School boys golf team continues to swing through the final weeks of their season as they took to the golf course twice last week.
