The Nebraska Schools Activities Association (NSAA) Class D Track and Field Championships were dealt some beautiful weather last week on Friday, May 17, and Saturday, May 18, at Burke Stadium in Omaha.
The Wood River contingent of athletes that took part in the NSAA Class C State Track and Field Championships in Omaha on Friday and Saturday, May 17 and 18, made respectable showings and managed to return home with some hardware.
The Central City/Centura Kernel’s season came to an end last week at the Nebraska Schools Activities Association Class C State Baseball Tournament in Omaha. On Monday, May 13, the Kernels faced the Malcolm Clippers in the winner bracket of the Class C tournament.
The Wood River Eagles boys golf team participated in the Class C-4 District golf meet on Tuesday, May 14, in Grand Island at the Indianhead Golf Course.
Nine members of the Wood River boys and girls track and field teams qualified for the NSAA State Track and Field Championships with their efforts at the C-6 District meet held on Thursday, May 9, at Centennial. The Eagle boys, as a team, were district runner up by amassing 96 team points from the ten team field. St. Paul won the district meet with 102.50 team points. On the ladies side of the day, the Lady Eagles scored 27 points for ninth place among the ten teams competing. Aquinas Catholic won the girls side of the meet with 88 team points.
