The Shelton Lady Bulldogs danced their way into the Class D-2 state basketball tournament with a big-time district final win on Friday, February 24, over Medicine Valley. After competing in the Class D-1 state tournament last year and bringing home the runner-up trophy, the Lady Bulldogs look to enjoy another run at state only this time in the Class D-2 field.
With 21 points from Sydney Davis and 19 courtesy of Kyra Wooden, the Lady Centurion basketball team blasted Nebraska Christian, 61-32, in the D1-2 district final on Friday, February 24, to advance to state tournament play. Centura bolted to a 16-9 lead in the first quarter and continued to add to that lead in the second quarter, 14-8.
The Gibbon High School Quiz Bowl team is having a fantastic season and are hoping to buzz their way to continued success, according to coach Abby Jones.
By a 49-39 margin the Kearney Catholic Stars ended the season for the Wood River boys basketball team in the C1-9 subdistrict tournament on Tuesday, February 21.
The top-seeded Centura boys basketball team cruised past fourth seeded Broken Bow, 33-56, on Tuesday, February 21, in the Class C1-10 subdistrict tournament held at Centura only to advance to play a highly contested game with the second seed, St. Paul on Thursday, February 23, where they were upended by the Wildcats, 40-43.
