Social distancing is still the rule, even during the playing of the National Anthem at the weekend’s Juniors game at Wood River. Legion teams from Wood River, Shelton/Gibbon, and Dannebrog/Cairo/Boelus were finally able to take the field last week for summer baseball action. Because Nebraska Legion officials cancelled both the district and state baseball tournaments earlier this spring because of the pandemic situation, some of the DCB Seniors’ luster of reigning as defending state champions is somewhat dimmed. Not dimmed, however, is the prospect of the season’s opening games this week.
Thirty-seven seniors will be promoted during commencement ceremonies to be held on Saturday, August 1, at 10:00 a.m. for the Centura High Class of 2020, and will be for families and faculty only due to social distancing.
Thirty-nine seniors of the Class of 2020 at Wood River Rural High School will take part in graduation ceremonies that are scheduled for Sunday, July 26, at 2:00 p.m. It will be determined prior to that time whether ceremonies will be held in person or virtually. Class colors are purple, black, and silver. The class song is “You’re Gonna Miss This” by Trace Adkins and the motto is “Let your dreams stay big and your worries stay small,” by Rascal Flatts. The class flowers are sunflowers and red roses.
