For the second year in a row, the Shelton High School Quiz Bowl team won the Twin Valley Conference title on Wednesday, March 30.
About 580 students from 22 high schools, including 22 students from Gibbon High and 26 from Shelton High School, participated in ACTIONS Day on March 16 at Central Community College-Hastings.
The Centura speech team competed in five events in Class C-1 at the Nebraska State Speech competition held at Kearney High School on Thursday, March 17. Senior Faith McDonald broke finals in both of her events and earned second place in Humorous Prose and third place in Entertainment. Nicole Gibson and Alaina Suntych competed in Duet, Alaina Suntych competed in Serious Prose, and Hope McDonald was a competitor in Entertainment. Jena Kruse recorded three assists and Claire Kluthe scored two goals to lead the Kearney Catholic girls in a 5-0 victory over York and the boys topped the Dukes, 2-0, on Thursday, March 17. Regan Potter, Lacey Maciejewski and Lexi Keim each recorded goals in the Lady Stars’ first win of the season. Athletes from Gibbon High School are part of both teams.
The Central City/Fullerton/ Centura Kernels baseball team got the 2022 season off to a rollicking start with a pair of big wins in the first two games of the season. The Kernels blasted Raymond Central, 13-3, on Friday, March 18, and then trampled Thurston/Cuming County on Saturday, March 19, by a score of 13-5.
