With the Gibbon offense stymied and unable to score for the first three quarters, the hometown Hershey Panthers turned away the visiting Buffaloes on Friday, August 26, 38-12 in the first contest of the season.
The Gibbon Lady Buffaloes golf team traveled to Kearney on Thursday, August 25, and participated in the Kearney Catholic Golf Invite at Meadowlark Golf Course in Kearney. Gibbon would finish the day with a team score of 603 and a 10th place finish overall. Leading the way for the Lady Buffaloes on the links Thursday was Carla Murillo-Corona with a final score of 127. The other four Gibbon golfers that rounded out the varsity squad for the Lady Buffaloes were Cristina Corona who shot a 181, Ana Montanez who shot a 144 on the day, Daisy Martinez finished the round with a score of 170, and Katherine Vasquez shot a 162.
The first victory of the season for the Wood River volleyball team came by way of sweeping visiting Arcadia/Loup City, 25-16, 25-16 and 25-19, on Thursday, August 25.
It was a scoring bonanza for the Shelton football team as they brushed aside the visiting Elba Bluejays 58-12 on Friday, August 26, the season opener for both teams.
Coming off a 4-5 record last season, fourth year Gibbon head football coach Steve Yockey is fully aware he will have a young line up for the coming season but expects preseason work to help the Buffaloes be competitive against a tough slate of opponents such as Hershey, Hastings St. Cecilia, Ord, Doniphan/ Trumbull, and Kearney Catholic.
