Wood River’s Rattlesnake Boys bring home award from TAPS awards banquet

The Testing Ag Performance Solutions (TAPS) awards banquet held on Saturday, January 13, was the culmination event for the program’s seventh year of farm management competitions. The TAPS program was created by University of Nebraska educators and specialists, as an innovative way of connecting producers to industry professionals and offering a way of testing out new, advancing technologies through farm management competitions facilitated in North Platte at the West Central Research, Extension, and Education Center.

Gibbon City Council makes decision on sirens, hears of grant fund awards

After putting the sounding of sirens on hold in December, the Gibbon City Council put the matter to a vote and reached a decision at the council’s regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, January 16. Council members also heard of grant money that the city will use for improvements at Rosen Park and to put toward downtown revitalization. The meeting was moved from Monday the 15th to Tuesday in observance of Martin Luther King, Junior, Day.

Cold winter mornings lead to a late rising sun on the horizon. It marks the sounds of kids tromping off school buses, hustling and bustling, rushing into school, some with smiles, hoods and hats covering faces, a few staring straight forward seemingly wondering what the day’s events will bring. Others look at their phones while they blindly walk through the hallways. Teachers greet students as they scurry in, ensuring everyone sees a friendly face to begin the day. The smell of bacon lingers through the air of the cafeteria, where breakfast awaits all students. What a wonderful place the halls of Wood River Rural Schools are!
