Tompkin participates in State 4-H Horse Expo, Hall County Fair

Kaycee Tompkin, daughter of Dana and Jennette Tompkin, of rural Wood River, recently competed in the Fonner Park State 4-H Horse Expo held in Grand Island July 13-17. She participated in a number of events with two Top 10 awards, placing seventh in Senior Pole Bending and ninth in Senior Ranch Pleasure. She also took part in the 2024 Hall County Fair, bringing home Champion in Poles and Keyhole and Reserve Champion in English Pleasure, English Equitation, Reining, Ranch Riding, and Barrels. Culpepper and Merriweather Circus entertains in Gibbon

The circus came to Gibbon on Friday, July 19, in the parking lot of Gibbon Public School. The Culpepper and Merriweather Circus began the day by offering those interested to watch the big top tent go up and then gave early birds a behind- the-scenes look at the show. The midway opened around 4:00 p.m. and the circus put on two performances that evening to the delight of the circus-goers. (–photos by Dennis Walker)

Mya Smith, Hendrix Rennau named Little Miss and Mister Wood River for FunFest

Mya Smith and Hendrix Rennau have been selected as 2024 Little Miss and Mr. Wood River for the upcoming 2024 FunFest celebration in Wood River on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 2, 3 and 4. Hendrix is the son of Nick and Abby Rennau. He will be a first grader at Wood River Elementary this fall. Mya is the daughter of Seth and Emily Smith and will also be a first grader at Wood River Elementary in the fall. Each candidate was required to write an “essay” explaining why they like Wood River FunFest. (–courtesy photos)
