Everyone is invited to take part in Old Settlers Day next Tuesday, April 7, as the City of Gibbon observes its 155th birthday. This commemorative day has always been celebrated on April 7, in the past with few exceptions.
Wood River Rural High School shop teacher and boys wrestling coach Darin Waddington has decided it is time to retire from both the education field and the coaching realm after being a mainstay in the community and school for many years.
Ground will be broken for the new Shelton community swimming pool, and the public is invited to celebrate the ceremony on Saturday, April 11, at 3:00 p.m. Shovels will turn the soil at the new location just east of the existing swimming pool, at 368 fourth street. The Shelton Community Pool Committee, the Village of Shelton board and staff, along with community input, have laid the groundwork over the past four years. Now the construction phase of the project is set to begin. The existing swimming pool, originally opened in 1958, will continue to operate this summer as construction work continues on the new site.
It has been 70 years since Duane Frazier graduated from Gibbon High School as a member of the Class of 1956. Joining him as a graduate of Gibbon High School are wife Garnita (Flory) Frazier (1961), Doyle Frazier (1960), Doris (Frazier) Ripp (1960), Dorothy (Frazier) Valdez (1965), and David Frazier (1968).
Wood River Rural Schools is hosting an event on Wednesday, April 29, that they would like to make community members aware of. The morning, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., will consist of career exploration on campus. The school is looking for community members to share with the students information about their career path, their business, and the needed job skills for their future employment.
