The game had all the drama and tension one might expect of a title match … the defense of a state championship was at stake (even though the last state title came at the end of the 2019 season … there was no championship game for the 2020 title because of COVID 19 concerns) … a win would mean an already unheard-of season since DCB finished the regular season with 26 wins and had won four tournament games in the past four days and would enter the record books with an unprecedented 31wins … a win would be defying the odds since PWG, always a highly regarded, obviously disciplined, well-coached team would be difficult to beat for the sixth meeting between the two during this season, especially on their home field, and … well, DCB didn’t exactly have to win this game since, in the doubleelimination format, their first loss would have meant a second game for the championship about an hour later. But DCB’s team took care of business by surviving a game that needed an extra inning to determine the outcome since it was tied at one run apiece at the end of regulation play, but survive they did as Bryce Gorecki poked an eighth-inning fly ball into the left field area, allowing Bosten Caspersen to take advantage of his in-born speed by scoring from second base, ending the game in walkoff fashion, 2-1.
