Area 4-Hers have equine success at horse expo

Three area 4-H equestrians earned high honors at the 2021 Fonner Park State 4-H Horse Exposition held in Grand Island July 10-14. Shelby Clark, of Shelton, Natalie Bendfeldt, of Gibbon, and Cyndee DeLosh, of Grand Island, came home from the event with awards. The expo included 400 exhibitors, 600 horses, 1,400 entries and over 50 counties were represented. Four-Hers from ten to eighteen years old competed in events such as Hippology, Judging, Halter Conformation, Halter Showmanship, Trail, Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship, Ranch Horse Pleasure, Dressage, Hunter Hack, Hunter Under Saddle, Hunt Seat Equitation, Reining, Ranch Riding, Working Ranch Horse, Pole Bending, and Barrel Racing.

Big bats carry DCB Seniors to state tourney

In the final two games played on Ravenna’s field in the Area 6 Legion Seniors Tournament on Monday and Tuesday, July 26th and 27th, the DCB team swept their way to the title by logging a total of 28 hits and by scoring a total of 31 runs in those two games. Two of those hits came via the pair of grand slam home runs turned in by Bosten Caspersen and Eli Wooden, both coming in Tuesday’s championship game which was an 18-6 blitzing of PWG (Palmer/Wolbach/Greeley). On the previous night Shelton/Gibbon was eliminated by a 13-4 loss as they endured a 12-hit game by DCB, a game led by two-baggers from the bats of Carter Noakes and Bosten Caspersen. Justice Peterson also had two hits, and Wooden, Elijah Boersen, Bryce Gorecki, Kolby Gorecki, and Tanner Simdorn each had one hit.

Time to head back to school for area Clipper Country schools and the start of many fall activities

Summer days will soon give way to school days and in order to plan for those upcoming school days, respective Clipper Country schools, Shelton, Gibbon, Wood River Rural and Centura, have released their schedules for the first days and weeks of school and fall sports. Following is how area schools will begin their 2021-22 school years according to their respective calendars up to the Labor Day holiday.

Leading with speed!

Levi Gipson leads the campers through a running warmup drill as part of the Speed Mechanics Camp put on Sunday afternoon, July 17, at the Shelton track facility. University of Nebraska track All-American standouts Levi Gipson, of Lincoln, and Cody Rush, of Grand Island, conducted the camp. Gipson and Rush gave tips on how the athletes can increase speed, reduce sprinting injuries, and reach their athletic potential during the two hour session.
