The Centura Student Council has been working with the Teens in the Driver Seat Organization for the past eight years. They have given messages to students on seatbelt usage, driver distractions, and driving while impaired. During this time period, they have won two trophies and close to $4,000 for their efforts, competing against 35 other schools in Nebraska. The Centura Student Council just received an Outstanding School in the Teens in the Driver Seat All-Star Awards. As a winning school, they will be recognized at this year’s TDS Virtual Summit Kick-off Celebration on Saturday, May 1, 2021. Each student council member will receive a certificate for their involvement with Teens in the Driver Seat® program. The Centura Student Council will also receive $500 for their efforts in promoting safe driving. April 11-17 was Week of the Young Child. It is a time to celebrate early learning, young children, their teachers, families, and communities. Gibbon Head Start celebrated Week of the Young Child last week with several activities. The children decorated grocery bags for Adam’s Corner Market to use, they did artwork that is being displayed at Gibbon Insurance Company, and they did some artwork with sidewalk chalk at Pioneer Park. The children also held a small rally to make the community aware of Week of The Young child.
