Civil War drum to be on display at Heritage Center’s “Salute to Service”

Veterans and members of the community are invited to the Gibbon Heritage Center this Sunday, November 7, at 2:00 p.m. as all veterans are honored in a “Salute to Service.” The special guest speaker for this Sesquicentennial event will be Dr. Kurt Hackemer who has focused his latest research on the experience of Civil War veterans who moved to the frontier after the war, including those who came to settle Gibbon as members of the Soldiers Free Homestead Colony in 1871. Please plan to come and show your patriotism as we recognize area veterans are recognized.

Wood River Spanish students celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

The Wood River Rural High School MCDC (Multicultural Diversity Club ) students came up with the idea to celebrate who they are and celebrate their roots/heritage with Spanish speaking parents who want to be involved in their student's education and the community on Wednesday, October 27. “We celebrated with food, games like the Loteria, Trompo and Baleros, common games in Mexico, and music,” explained Blanca Rodrieguez, Wood River Middle/High School interpreter and administrative assistant. “We would like to make this a tradition where we can come together and celebrate who we are.” (–courtesy photo)

Area day of giving upcoming

Donors will have sixteen total Shelton area entities to choose from when making decisions on donating during the Kearney Area Community Foundation’s (KACF) Give Where You Live Day of Giving on Thursday, December 2. Last year, Give Where You Live broke record numbers with $1,203,453 raised for 165 local non-profits.
