Bulldog boys champs; Cheney breaks long-standing record
By virtue of scoring 106 points at the Russ Snyder Invitational meet held at Sandy Creek’s facility Thursday, May 2, Shelton’s Bulldog boys rode the crest of six event championships, two runner-up finishes, a trio of thirds and six other scoring events to nab the top trophy.
One of the wins was a record-setting 1600 meter (metric mile) run turned in by Ry Cheney. The record, set in 1956 by Garold Resh, one of the state’s top runners of his time, stood at 4:33.7. Cheney rewrote that after he turned in a time of 4:32.92.
