Patricia “Pat” R. Peters, age 86, formerly of Gibbon, died Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at Saint Luke’s Good Samaritan Society in Kearney. Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, May 17, at Saint James Catholic Church in Kearney with Father Joseph Hannappel officiating. Burial was at the Riverside Cemetery near Gibbon. Horner Lieske McBride and Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney are in charge of the arrangements. Pat was born October 22, 1932, in Shelton to Charles and Josephine (Picard) Kappius. She graduated from Shelton High School with the class of 1950 and later attended Kearney State Teachers’ College. On May 22, 1951, she married Byron Peters at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Shelton. Pat had many different jobs in her life. She was most importantly a mother and grandmother, but also taught school at District 39, worked at Rutors the Fashion, Ganz Law and Abstract, as a secretary at Kearney State College, a hostess at the Elk’s Lodge, a home health nurse, and a greeter at Walmart. She was a member of Saint James Catholic Church and Saint James Catholic Daughters. Survivors include her daughters, Nancy Farris, of Omaha, and Lisa (Bob) Morris, of Gibbon; son, Hal (Kathleen) Peters, of Gibbon; sister, Helen (George) Widdowson, of Shelton; sisters-in-law, Shirley Rosenthal, of Kearney, Verla Lange, of Gibbon, and Claudine Kappius, of Colorado; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Byron Peters; a son, Anthony Peters; and a brother, Bob Kappius.
