Herbert Korcek, age 85, of Columbus, died Friday, January 24, 2020, at Emerald Care and Rehabilitation in Columbus. The funeral service was held on Saturday, February 1, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with Reverend Patrick Sparling and Reverend Chris Ramstad officiating. Interment was in the Columbus Cemetery. Herbert Francis Korcek Jr., was born on October 4, 1934, in Shelton to Herbert Sr. and Beulah (Coon) Korcek. He graduated from Gibbon High School in 1952. Herbert was raised on a farm and was active in all sports including golden glove boxing. Through the years, Herbert sold insurance for Physicians Mutual and then worked later as a salesman for a long distance telephone service. On November 27, 1987, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Michaelsen in Omaha. Herbert enjoyed boating and sports, especially Nebraska football and wintering in Palm Springs yearly. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Herbert is survived by his sons, Daniel Korcek, of Omaha, David (Regina) Korcek, of Omaha, and Dallas Korcek, of Norfolk; daughter, Kelly Salas and special friend Justin Young, of Columbus; step-sons, Steve Gaver, Warren Gaver, and Vaughn Gaver, all of Columbus; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; sister, Linda Clevenger, of Shelton; sister-inlaw, Alta (Harvey) Nauenburg, of Columbus; brother-in-law, Vic Olson, of Columbus; sisterin- law, Selma (Larry) Loseke, of Platte Center; brother-in-law, Roy (Sylvia) Michaelsen, of Clarkson; and special friends considered like family, Jan Wist and Bobbie Greenspan. Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Beulah Korcek Sr.; wife, Dorothy Korcek; son, Don Korcek; brothers, James and Fred Korcek; brother-in-law, Ed Clevenger; and sister-in-law, Velda Olson.
