Gibbon Riverside Cemetery Board improves fencing, seeks funding for new directory

Replacing a section of fencing that surrounds Gibbon’s Riverside Cemetery and raising funds for an updated directory are two of the most recent projects implemented by the Gibbon Cemetery Board.

Cemetery Board Chairman Lee Vohland said that the board has been working for some time to replace a section of chain-link fence on the north side of the cemetery about half way between the east and west ends. Several years ago, Gibbon residents made it abundantly clear to the board that they were not in favor of the long standing steel fence surrounding Riverside Cemetery being replaced by plastic fencing when the fence needed a lot of repair work. So the board contracted with a firm in Minden that removed the steel fencing, sandblasted and repainted it and then replaced it. But the chain link section remained. Now that major improvement has been completed with steel fencing very similar to the original replacing the chain link fence, the board is moving on to it’s next project.
