Gibbon Council honors Gibbon Fire and Rescue for their service to the city

Official recognition for members of the Gibbon Volunteer Fire Department highlighted the regular monthly meeting of the Gibbon City Council on Monday, August 19.

Nine members of the Gibbon Volunteer Fire Department, including Fire Chief Rick Brown, were on hand as Mayor Deb VanMatre presented the department with a “Recognition of Extraordinary Service” proclamation during the unprecedented flooding events in the community in March and July. Mayor VanMatre commended the department for its “round the clock coverage and assistance” to those affected through evacuation, emergency services, and clean up efforts in the March event and for being on call immediately to assist with proactive measures such as sand bagging and evacuations during the July flooding. “In addition to the flood relief,” Mayor VanMatre read, from the proclamation, “Gibbon’s volunteer firefighters continued to protect the life and property of our citizens through fire response and medical emergencies …”
