Drone sightings increase across local area, state

In the years 1896-97, newspaper reports of mystery airships or phantom airships began in the western part of the country and rapidly spread eastward, including sightings reported in the Kearney, Hastings and Shelton newspapers at the time, causing the populace to spend a great amount of time pointing to lights and other shapes in the skies and speculating on what they were seeing.

Beginning in the 1970s, stories of “black helicopters” began appearing in newspapers and magazines and quickly began being linked to reports of cattle mutilations, “men in black”, UFO, and more and gave birth to countless government conspiracy theories.
