Waunda L. Wicht

Waunda L. Wicht, age 99, of Kearney, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at St. Luke’s Good Samaritan Home in Kearney. Funeral services were Saturday, February 19, at Faith United Church in Gibbon. Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon.

Waunda was born December 8, 1922, in Hall County to Marion and Alma (Mosser) Dubbs. She attended District 32 Country School and Shelton High School, graduating with the class of 1940. On December 17, 1941, she was united in marriage to John Wicht in Wood River. Together the couple were partners in life running a construction company and managing the farm.

Waunda loved the outdoors and enjoyed bird watching. She also enjoyed playing the piano and singing. Waunda was very patriotic and was a longtime member of the Gibbon American Legion Auxiliary. She was always a strong supporter of her community. Waunda was a member of Faith United Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. Left to cherish her memory

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Janell Wicht, of Sidney, Jenith Hiatt, of Kansas City, Missouri, JayDee (Suzy) Wicht, of Scottsbluff, and James Wicht, of Gibbon; grandchildren, Michael Wicht, Daniel Wicht, Brenda Moss, Jacoby Boles, Joseph Hiatt, Jaclyn Hines, Jonathan Hiatt, Aaron Wicht, Austin Wicht and Joy Goc Webb; and many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and a community of friends.

Waunda was preceded in death by her husband; and her son, John F. Wicht.
