Victor W. Carpenter

Victor W. Carpenter, age 79, of Kearney, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2022, at Central Nebraska Veterans Home in Kearney. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. today, Thursday, June 2, 2022, at Kearney First United Methodist Church with Pastor Matt Fowler officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon with Military Honors provided by Gibbon American Legion Post #310 in conjunction with the U.S. Navy Funeral Honors Team. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Victor Wayne Carpenter was born November 30, 1942, in Gibbon to Arthur and Pansy (Dunn) Carpenter. He was raised in Gibbon and received his education from Gibbon High School. Victor joined the U.S. Navy in 1959 and proudly served until his honorable discharge in 1964. He then was united in marriage to Karen Boggs. To this union, two children were blessed. The couple later divorced. In his early years, he was a farm hand, then worked at Gibbon COOP until he began driving truck for Yellow Freight in Kearney. Victor drove for 32 years and during that time he received a One Million Mile Safe Driving Award and later a Two Million Mile Safe Driver Award.

Victor was a member of the Gibbon American Legion. He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed hunting with his son, son-in-law and grandsons. He loved the outdoors and living at his lake home. Victor was also known for his love of golf and billiards. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Monie (Reynalda) Carpenter ,of Wood River and Hallie (Brian) Hagan, of Kearney; grandchildren, Riley Carpenter, Rachel (Alex Lumburg) Carpenter, Hattie (Nate Burns) Hagan, and Brogan (Madyson Cumpston) Hagan; great-grandchild, Rowynn Carpenter; sister, Violet Andersen, of Gibbon; brother, Don (Irene) Carpenter, of Florida; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family and his special friend, Marlys Farm, of Minden.

Victor was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Darrell, Dewey, Arthur, Dewayne, and Terry Carpenter; and sisters, Irene Edwards, Lois Reynolds, and Darlene Aarons.
