Roberta F. Slack

Roberta F. Slack, age 92, of Grand Island, passed away on Friday, March 25, 2022, at Tiffany Square.

Memorial services will be today, Thursday, March 31, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Wood River United Methodist Church with Pastor Bonnie McCord officiating. Visitation will be an hour prior to the start of the service. Burial of ashes will be 1:30 p.m. in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island.

Roberta was born on May 7, 1929, in Wood River, to Neill C. and Amy (Rockefeller) Slack. She grew up in Wood River and attended school there. She graduated from Wood River High School in 1946. She attended Kearney State College and after 13 years of summer school and night classes had received her bachelor and masters degrees in elementary education. She taught 10 years in the rural schools of Hall County, 10 years at St. Paul and spent the last 24 years of her career before retiring in 1991 at Dodge Elementary School in Grand Island.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Wood River, the Grand Island area of retired school personnel and Delta Kappa Gamma society. She also enjoyed knitting and reading Winnie the Pooh for her family. She made many Pooh Bears for the children in the family.

Those left to cherish her memory are her nieces, Marian Berry, Kay Webster, Marilyn Gewecke, Sheryl Bessinger, and Beverly Tolbert; and nephews, Lynn Slack, Glenn Mays, Roger Slack, and N. Curtis Slack; and sister-in-law, Betty Slack.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Louise Warner and Marjorie Mays; two brothers, Donald and Clifton Slack; and two nieces, Janet Beattie and Connie Gonzales.
