Richard Grell
Richard Lee Grell, age 87, of Shelton, died on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at his home. Funeral services were held Monday, June 22, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Shelton with Pastor Don Pobanz officiating. Cremation took place following the service. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Shelton Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Richard Lee Grell was born on October 19, 1938, in Denison, Iowa, to Alfred and Matilda (Steinkuehler) Grell. He grew up in Shelton and received his education at Shelton High School, graduating in 1956. He entered the U.S. Navy on October 1, 1956, and was honorably discharged on September 24, 1959.
Richard was united in marriage to Sharon Kay Waller on June 5, 1960, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Shelton. The couple made their home in Denver, Colorado, where they started their family, and he was employed by Continental Airlines. They moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and later to Lakewood, California, for a number of years where they raised their children. Richard also worked at Worsham Travel Group and was a certified Travel Agent for many years.
In retirement, they moved to Slidell, Louisiana, for a short time, until moving to the San Diego area to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Richard and Sharon moved back to Shelton in November of 2020.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bellflower Elks, Shelton American Legion, and the Long Beach, California, Lions Club. He liked to do puzzles, play Bingo, attend sporting events, and worldwide travel.
Richard is survived by his son, Craig Grell; daughter, Christine Hull; grandchildren, Amanda Jones, Chelsea Grell, and Dustin Jones; great-grandson, Kai Jones-Pearson; and sisters, Darlene Mohr, Phyllis Kaelin, and Debbie Grell.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Sharon; granddaughter, Brittany Grell; brothers, De-Wayne and Charles; brothersin- law, Fred Mohr, Ron Kaelin, and Jim Waller; and sisters-in -law, Linda Grell and Patricia Grell.
