Opal I. Brodine
Opal I. Brodine, age 99, of Elm Creek, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Brookestone Gardens in Kearney. Funeral services were held Saturday, December 14, at the Elm Creek United Methodist Church.
Interment was held prior to the service at Elm Creek Cemetery.

Opal was born February 27, 1925, in Elm Creek, to Roy and Virginia (Annable) Beavers. She grew up in Elm Creek receiving her education from Elm Creek High School, graduating with the class of 1942. Opal then attended a teacher’s college for one year.
On August 17, 1944, Opal was united in marriage to Ivan Brodine at the Kearney United Methodist Church. The couple made their home in Lexington and later Shelton before moving back to the family farm in Elm Creek in 1987.
Opal was a member of Elm Creek Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was also a member of Going My Way Extension Club. Opal enjoyed quilting, baking, cooking, and traveling. She was chosen as Buffalo County Homemaker of the Year in 1972.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Greg (Linda) Brodine, of Gibbon, Stan (Vera Lee) Brodine, of Kearney, and Brad (Alynn) Brodine, of Elm Creek; grandchildren, Stephanie Schuster, Lance Koenig, Cole Brodine, Logan Brodine, Lacey Leonard, Mason Brodine, and Kaydra Brodine; 11 greatgrandchildren; sister, Betty Broe, of Elm Creek; brother, Dean (Polly) Beavers, of Kearney; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ivan Brodine; brothers, Orval, Bill, Dick, and Levi Beavers; sister, Lois Hahn; and brothers-in-law, Matt Broe and Ray Hahn.
