Nelle Fauvette Cushman

Nelle Fauvette Cushman, age 91, of Holdrege, formerly of Gibbon, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, February 16, at Faith United Church in Gibbon. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. today (Thursday) at the church.

Nelle was born August 19, 1932, in Mason City to Theodore and Vina (Bray) West.

She grew up in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School. On June 6, 1952, Nelle was united in marriage to Cecil C. Cushman in St.

Joseph, Missouri. To this union three children were blessed, Joe, Barb, and Patricia. Nelle and Cecil farmed north of Gibbon for several years. Nelle enjoyed helping Cecil on the farm and worked at several factories in the area as well. After the couple retired, they sold the farm and moved to Burwell.

Later they moved to Shelton to be closer to the doctors as more care was needed. After Cecil passed away in 2012, Nelle moved to a few different assisted living and nursing homes.

Nelle and Cecil always looked forward to spending every winter in Texas. They would travel to the Veterans Reunion in Branson, Missouri, and popcorn days in North Loup. The couple also loved to attend country music festivals together.

Nelle enjoyed fishing, camping, and embroidery. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren at family get-togethers. Nelle was a member of the Red Hat Society, Legion Auxiliary, and many other women’s clubs.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Joe (Mary) Cushman, of Clinton, Missouri, Barb Loschen, of Holdrege, and Patricia (Randy) Jarmin, of Gibbon; five grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two greatgreat- grandchildren; sister-inlaw, Carol West, of Overton; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Nelle was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cecil Cushman in 2012; daughter-inlaw, Vicki Cushman; son-in-law, James Loschen; grandson, Kevin Jarmin; brother, Elwood West; sister, Myrene Woodward; and brother-in-law, Alvin Woodward.
