Lois J. Benson

Lois J. Benson, age 84, of Kearney, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Mother Hull Home in Kearney. Private family graveside services will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon. A celebration of life and luncheon will be 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Faith United Church in Gibbon.

Lois was born September 29, 1939, in Gibbon to Harley and Laura (DeBrie) Catlin. She was raised in Gibbon and received her education from Gibbon High School. Lois was united in marriage to Royal Carlsen on June 25, 1959, in Kearney. She worked in janitorial services for Virgil’s Cleaning service and for many years at Kearney Eagle’s Club. On December 10, 1977, Lois married William “Bill” Benson. She was an active member of Kearney Eagle’s Club Auxiliary and Kearney Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.

Lois enjoyed camping, taking care of her plants, collecting angels, and spending time with her family and friends, especially her kids and grandkids.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Brenda Walburn and significant other, Jim Hiner, of Kearney, Becky Lawless and significant other, Tom Myers, of Elm Creek, Sherry Carlsen, of Kearney, Greg Benson and wife, Amber, of Kearney, and Shelly Holmes and husband, Tim, of Grand Island; daughter-in-law, Trudy Carlsen, of Council Bluffs, Iowa; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Ron Catlin, of Kearney, and Kenny Catlin, of Lincoln; sister, Linda Johnson and husband, Kurt, of Omaha; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Royal Carlsen and William Benson; son, Steve Carlsen; brother, Jim Catlin; and an infant sister, Donna Catlin; as well as many extended family members.
