Kirby Legg

Kirby Legg, age 80, of Gibbon, died Friday, July 26, 2024, at Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney. Memorial services will be held 1:00 p.m. today, Thursday, August 1, at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Inurnment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon.

Kirby was born on January 8, 1944, to Milo Legg and Vivian (Post) Legg in Norton, Kansas. He grew up in Logan, Kansas, where they had milking cows, racehorses and grew wheat. Kirby was also a horse jockey when he was young and won many trophies. In 1965, he married Doris Jarvis and moved to Phillipsburg, Kansas, where he worked at the Tamko shingle factory for two years. They then moved to Kearney where he worked on a farm as a hired man. They later relocated to Gibbon where he had a pig farrowing business and raised cows among many other animals.

Kirby later took up corn farming.

Kirby was known for his beautiful garden, one of his greatest joys was sharing his produce with family and friends. He also enjoyed his chickens and sharing eggs with everyone. He had a passion for fishing and telling fish stories. He greatly loved his wife, children, and grandchildren. He went to as many of the grandkids’ activities as he could.

Kirby leaves behind his wife Doris of 59 years; his son Troy and daughter-in-law Kari Hemje, of Kenesaw, and grandchildren Jaci, Rylee, William, and Danelle; daughter Tricia and son-in-law Brian Regelin, of Cozad, and granddaughter Whitney; and his sister Bernita DeBoer, of Kearney. He also leaves behind many close friends he loved like family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Milo and Vivian; and his sisters, Sandra and Jeanene.
