Born on September 19, 1951, in Mason City, Iowa, Kathy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to those close to her. Growing up in St.
Ansgar, Iowa, Kathy had a love of animals, especially horses, and would spend time horseback riding with friends and family. After graduating high school, she attended beauty school and would later move to Colorado where she would meet and fall in love with Gary Bergstrom. Shortly after their marriage and giving birth to their first son (Gary Jr.), they moved back to St. Ansgar, Iowa, in 1982. Kathy later gave birth to two more sons (Kacey and Cody). While staying at home to raise her sons, she also enjoyed raising pheasants and turkeys, gardening, sewing, fishing and camping with her friends and family, and quilting with the ladies of the Mona Lutheran Church.
In 1993, the family moved to Gibbon, where Kathy worked part-time farming before working at the Cabela’s call center in Kearney for 25 years until her retirement. During this time, she was also an active member of the Shelton United Methodist Church Women’s Circle.
While her retirement was short, she would often enjoy spending time at the family getaway in Burwell and fishing at Calamus Reservoir. While fishing was Kathy’s favorite hobby … a hobby she enjoyed most when sharing it with her family … nothing brought her more joy than spending time and sharing love with her grandchildren.
Kathy is survived by her sister, Kyla Stromley (Dennis) of St. Ansgar, Iowa; her sons, Gary Bergstrom Jr. (Jennifer), of Lincoln, Kacey Bergstrom (Shanna), of Gibbon, and Cody Bergstrom, of Shelton; and her four grandchildren, Riley, Reid, Kristiana, and Garrett. She is also survived by her nephews, Eric Graham (Cheri), Nathan Stromley (Shanda), and Matthew Stromley, and her niece Breanne Cummings. Chelsie Bergstrom, of Gibbon, was also close to Kathy’s heart.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Gary Bergstrom; her brother, Richard Graham (Juanitta), of Belton, Missouri; her parents, Ernest and Alice Hollatz, of St. Ansgar, Iowa; and also many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.
