Jerry Snyder

Jerry Earl Snyder, age 76, of Omaha, passed away in the early morning of December 30, 2024, at the Eastern Nebraska Veterans’ Home.

A Military Honors Funeral Ceremony was held Wednesday, January 8, at the Omaha National Cemetery.

He was born on January 27, 1948, in Kearney to his parents Don and Colleen Snyder (Dubbs) who lived in Shelton. Jerry grew up in Shelton where he enjoyed competing in all sports and graduated high school in 1966. He attended college for two years before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1968.

In the military, Jerry attended Balboa Hospital Field Medical Service School in Camp Pendleton, California, to become a Field Medical Corpsman. He was stationed in Da Nang, Vietnam, from 1969-1970 where he assisted Marines on convoys and patrols. After completing his tour of duty overseas, he worked at the Naval Base in Corpus Christi, Texas. Following his honorable discharge in 1974 as a Petty Officer 2nd Class, Jerry earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in biology at University of Nebraska at Omaha. He found his career at the Omaha Douglas County Health Department in many roles including Outdoor City Code Enforcement, Food Inspector, and Air Pollution Tech. After 35 years of serving the public, Jerry retired in 2013.

In 1972, Jerry married Susan Jackson. Together, they had three children, Jacki, Jayson and Jay. He enjoyed watching the Huskers (when they were winning). He loved to watch the games at various bars with his sons. Jerry enjoyed a good beer and prime rib. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and constant teasing. He was a good man who loved and did whatever was needed for his family.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Susan, of Omaha; daughter, Jacki (husband David) Rudebusch, granddaughter, Elli, of Lincoln; son, Jayson Snyder, of Omaha; son, Jay (wife Allie) Snyder, of Omaha; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by two infant children; his parents, Don and Colleen; brother, Kenneth Snyder; sister, Arleen Kwasnick; and both sets of grandparents.
