Janice was born on June 27, 1946, at Fairbury to Dayle E. and Emma G. (Korensky) Dittmer. She was one of two children born into the family.

Janice was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church, rural Ohiowa. She was raised on a farm north of Ohiowa, and she attended country school District #39 north of Ohiowa from kindergarten to seventh grade. She moved to Ohiowa Public School in the eighth grade and graduated with the class of 1964. Janice remained on the farm with her parents until 1984, when she moved into Ohiowa. Throughout the years, Janice wore many hats and was never afraid of work. She helped her parents with all the necessary farm chores, mowed for a few families in Ohiowa, cleaned houses, and babysat, all while caring for her aging parents. Janice also volunteered at Grace Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday School and Bible School for several years. After Janice’s father passed away in 1998, Janice and her mother moved to Shelton to be closer to family. While in Shelton, Janice took work at Morris Press before settling into a steady job at Baldwin Filters. In 2008, she decided it was time to retire from Baldwin. In retirement, Janice had a garden and enjoyed canning and raising her produce. She continued to care for her mother and also found time to clean for a few families and businesses in Shelton.

In 2009, Janice was surprised with a gift from her mother in the form of a Shih-Tzu puppy named Peanut Butter. Peanut Butter was a loyal friend and companion to Janice and gave her much joy. An annual tradition was Peanut Butter’s picture with Santa Claus each December. Peanut Butter lived a good life and passed away in 2022.

Janice also cherished her relationships with family. She especially enjoyed a cruise with Richard’s family, and as her health declined, she relied on her family and was grateful for their help with doctor appointments and other tasks that allowed her independence.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Sylvia Dittmer, of Hastings; niece, Linda Hansen and husband, Jeff, of Roseland; nephew, Allen Dittmer, of Kearney; and great-niece and nephew, Kimberly Branum and husband, Sam, of Bradshaw, and Matthew Hansen, of Bozeman, Montana.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Dayle and Emma; brother, Richard Dittmer; and beloved dog, Peanut Butter.
