James L. Prochaska, Jr.

James L. Prochaska, Jr., age 78, of Shelton, died Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Good Samaritan Society, St. John’s Home.

Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 3, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Shelton. Reverend Don Pobanz will officiate. The inurnment will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery North Shelton. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 2, 2024, at the church.

Rasmussen Funeral Home in Ravenna is serving the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Orphan Grain Train and American Legion Post 297.

James L. Prochaska was born March 25, 1945, in Buffalo County to James and Ethel (Vogt) Prochaska. He grew up in the North Shelton community and graduated from Shelton High School.

He married Julia (Classen) Prochaska on June 20, 1965, in Kearney. The couple made their home on a farm near Shelton before retiring and moving into Shelton. He was a farmer for many years and after retirement, he began working as a handyman and the local lawnmowing man in Shelton.

James was a member of Zion Lutheran Church North Shelton and American Legion Post 297.

He loved his family and God.

His joy was serving and helping others.

Survivors include his son, Joel (Jadenda) Prochaska, of Texas; daughter, Jenette (Arlan) Meyer, of Shelton; grandchildren, Amanda (Maarten) Strong Cappaert, of Texas, James (Lexi Kjorlien) Prochaska, of Belize, Jeremiah (Katie Jochem) Meyer, of Shelton, and Johanna (Ronald) Jackson, of Seward; great-grandchildren, Nova Cappaert, of Texas, Luke Meyer, of Shelton, and Rai’Lynn Jackson, of Seward; sister, Deanna (Larry) Godfrey, of Kearney; and brother, Ron (Marilyn) Prochaska, of Shelton.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Julia; his parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law; two sisters, Ona Mae Adam and Dianna Chloupek; and two nephews, Ardean Godfrey and Aaron Prochaska.
