Harvey Lester (Les) Finck

Harvey Lester (Les) Finck, age 90, of Grand Island, passed away on October 12, 2023, at Good Samaritan Society-Grand Island Village. A funeral service was held Wednesday, October 18, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Dannebrog, with burial following at the Dannebrog Cemetery.

Pastor Sherry was the celebrant. All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.

Harvey was born on June 25, 1933, in Shelton, to Floyd and Pauline Finck. He graduated from Wood River High School in 1951 and joined the Army from 1953-1955 and was a Corporal when he was honorably discharged. He spent time in Germany during the Korean War. He joined theAmerican Legion after leaving the service, which he was a member of for 50 plus years and was given an award for this past year.

He married Lucille Neamon, with whom he had one daughter, Debra. He later married Sara (Sally) Winkle in 1965 and had two children, William Finck and Paula Dush, and three step-children, Michael Winkle, Millard (Pat) Winkle, and Jayne Waltz. They moved to Dannebrog in 1967, where he farmed until retirement in 1996. He enjoyed playing cards daily as well as fishing with his grandchildren. He also spent many hours reading. He belonged to several clubs over the years, including the Eagles, Lions, and American Legion.

Harvey farmed nearly all of his life. He worked in construction from 1960-1964 and the ordinance plant from 1966-1970.

He ran heavy equipment to help build interstate 80 throughout Nebraska and Kansas.

Left to remember Harvey is one sister, Maxine Rathman; and children, William Finck, Paula Dush, Pat Winkle, Jayne Waltz, and Debra Brandt; as well as grandchildren, Angelia Boyle, James (Buzz) Winkle, Grace Winkle, Neva Winkle, Eamon Winkle, Cassie Dungan, Sami Dush, Brittany Finck, Alex Finck, and Caleb Brandt; and six great-grandchildren, nieces and a nephew.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Sally; parents, Floyd and Pauline Finck; one grandson, Christopher; one stepson, Michael; and one brother-in-law, Merlin Rathman.
