Eugene “Gene” Giger
Eugene “Gene” Giger, age 73, of Gibbon, passed away September 13, 2026, at Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney. Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Gibbon Baptist Church. Inurnment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in
Gibbon.

Eugene Wayne Giger was born on January 11, 1953, in Red Cloud to Wayne and Amelia Giger (Kulek). He grew up in Gibbon, where he graduated in 1971. From a young age, Eugene had a strong work ethic and a love for his family and community.
After high school, he served in the United States Army and was later discharged. He returned home to Gibbon, where he began a long and dedicated career. He worked at Marlette Machine Shop for 25 years in Kearney and then at Ace Irrigation for 25 years in Kearney, before retiring from Ace Irrigation.
On February 12, 1977, Eugene married the love of his life, Joyce Giger, in Gibbon.
Together they built a loving family.
Eugene was a proud and active member of the American Legion in Gibbon, where he served his community. He was also a Scout Master to many young boys, helping to guide, encourage, and shape the next generation. His generosity, leadership, and willingness to serve others left a lasting mark on countless lives.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; his children, Jeff (Marie) Giger, Desirea Giger, Danielle Castaneda, Tom (Elisha) Giger, Sara (Dennis) Scadden, and Deidra Gidcumb (Justin Harmon). He is also survived by his 18 grandchildren, Devon, Deshawn, Angel, Nikiya, Tantashea, Amador, Bryan, Bricia, Shakiysha, Yahyda, Trenten, Lain, Cadence, Trae, Brayden, Levi, Emersyn, and Tristan; 17 great-grandchildren, Paeson, Jordon Jacoby, Carli, Janiya, Claire, Carson, Zamilah, Zyaire, Eligio, Callie, Amyriion, Conor, Niarra, Callen, Zacora, Akarii, and Kior; sisters, Betty Gehre, Irene Hagen, Mary (Rod) Mattson, and Josie Giger; brother, Charles Giger; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Eugene will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His kindness, strength, and unwavering dedication to his family and community will never be forgotten.
