Ethel L. Voss
Ethel L. Voss, age 93, of Cairo, died on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at CHI Health St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 3, at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island with Derek Apfel, CFC officiating. Burial followed in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.
Ethel Lucille Voss was born March 12, 1932, on a farm southeast of Cairo to Louie and Adnelle (Whitehead) Runge.
She attended grade school at District #31 in Hall County.
Ethel graduated from Cairo High School in 1949.
In February of 1949, she started working at the State Bank of Cairo, while finishing her senior year. She continued to work at the bank until 1958 when she devoted her time to homemaking and raising their three sons. In February 1976, she went back to work at the State Bank of Cairo. Ethel worked for almost 40 years at the bank and really loved her job.
She married Duane Voss on June 2, 1957, in Cairo. The couple lived all their married life on the Voss homestead, southeast of Cairo, just one mile east of where Mrs. Voss was born.
Ethel was fascinated by all aspects of nature — she loved to be outdoors. She also enjoyed gardening, flowers, chocolate, and country music.
She is survived by her sons, Doug Voss (Barbara Beyke) and Dennis (Kelly) Voss; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Fran Harders and Luella Millspaugh.
Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Duane; parents; son, Donald Duane in 1996; sister, Iona Belle; brothers-in-law, Lyle Harders and Lawrence Rolofson; and nephew, Ron Harders.
