Curt was born on January 7, 1955, in Kearney to Donald and Davine Farrell. Proud of his Midwestern roots, he grew up in Gibbon where he was a bright, hardworking, and mischievous boy who loved golf and wrestling. His talent and passion for golf earned him a state championship and a scholarship to attend community college in McCook before he returned to farming in southwestern Nebraska.

Drawn to a life of service through medicine, Curt later pursued his undergraduate degree at Nebraska Wesleyan

University in Lincoln. He earned his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. He completed his residency in Sioux City, Iowa, where he went on to teach and practice family medicine and eventually established Dunes Family Medicine in Dakota Dunes, South Dakota.

Curt’s career was shaped by his compassion and unwavering commitment to providing care with empathy and humanity. Guided by his small-town values and strong work ethic, he became a trusted physician in the community, caring for multiple generations of families with a relentless drive and deep sense of responsibility.

Curt married Kimberly Freese, of Kearney, on November 24, 1990. Although they grew up just ten minutes apart, their paths didn’t cross until later in life, when an unexpected and beautiful connection blossomed into lasting love. Through all of life’s ups and downs, Kim was by his side, offering strength, laughter, and partnership.

A stroke at age 47 and heart complications in his 50s brought significant challenges, but Curt’s spirit remained strong. He continued showing up for the people he loved, steady, proud, and never short on corny jokes. He was a devoted Cornhusker football fan, selfless caregiver, passionate golfer, and proud Elvis impersonator. His storytelling and signature sense of humor lit up every room, and he took great pride in his role as a father and grandfather.

Curt is survived by his loving wife, Kim; his children, Brad (Margo), John (Amanda), Lance, Katie (John), and Cameron; and his grandchildren, Arianna, Lucas, Preston, Colette, Natalie, Isla, and Emerson. He is also survived by his brothers, Denny (Vicki), Lee (Beth), and sister Donna.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Davine, and his grandparents, William and Alice Farrell, and Arthur and Lola Mast.
