Doris A. Isaacs

Doris A. Isaacs, age 87, joined her heavenly father surrounded by family on February 3, 2024. Services were held Wednesday, February 7, at the Gibbon Baptist Church in Gibbon, officiated by Pastor Taylor Shippy. Burial was in Highland Park Cemetery in Ravenna.

Doris was born December 3, 1936, in Nebraska City to Warren Alvin and Bessie (Karth) Dixon. She was the eighth of nine children to be born into the Dixon family. She attended school in Nebraska City, graduating with the class of 1954.

Doris married Leslie D. Isaacs on February 27, 1955, in Nebraska City. The couple first lived in Unadilla as well as Palmyra and Hemingford. In 1970, they moved to Ravenna.

Doris held several jobs, including working as the secretary at Ravenna High School for several years. She became a licensed insurance agent, working in two agencies in the area. She then added her SEC license selling Ozark National Life products, at one time proudly selling over $1,000,000 in premiums in a twelvemonth period. When she retired, she was working as the secretary at United Methodist Church in Ravenna.

Doris was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church in Ravenna where she served on many boards and committees, including being a board member of the Little Bluejay preschool. She was a charter member of the Ravenna Lioness Club, eventually becoming a Lions Club member in Ravenna where she and Les served together for over 20 years. They made many lifelong friends in the club. She enjoyed making homemade pies that were sold in the Annevar Lions stand every year.

One of her lifelong enjoyments was sewing and making clothing for herself and her family.

She became a member of the Annevar Quilt Guild making quilts with these friends. Her family remembers her Sunday dinners that always included her homemade dinner rolls and having breakfasts with the homemade cinnamon rolls.

Doris was involved in her children and grandchildren’s lives where she attended many sporting events, choir and band concerts, and plays and musicals. She loved her family and supported them in all they did. She also enjoyed playing pinochle and games with friends and family. Later in life she enjoyed playing Bingo, attending Gibbon Quilt Guild and Sew N Sews.

Survivors include her son, Robert; daughter and son-inlaw, Patricia and Terry Yendra; granddaughters, Ashley (Adam) Dack and Jamie Yendra; grand-son-in-law, Jim Ingram; and great-grandchildren, Natalie Jaworski, Nora Ingram, and Madison, Jessie, Ada and Augustus Dack.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; siblings, Rolfe, Warren, Frank, Robert, Jean Ruff, Harold, Donald and Dale; daughter-inlaw, Deborah (Clarke) Isaacs; and granddaughter, Jessica (Isaacs) Ingram.
