Delores Carrie O’Brien was born on June 18, 1945, to Clinton and Clyta Grace (Allen) Burmood in Kearney. She grew up and attended school in Shelton, graduating from Shelton High School.

Later in life, she continued her education and earned an associate’s degree in computer programming from Central Community College in Grand Island.

Throughout her life, Delores worked numerous jobs. While living in Grand Island, she worked as a bomb builder at the Grand Island Ordinance Plant, a computer programmer at Wheelers, and as a Housing and Urban Development worker. She later worked in the in-bound sales area at Cabela’s in Kearney.

Her most important and fulfilling job was as a mom. As a mother, she recognized that she was not as perfect as God would like her to have been, but she dearly loved both her step-children and biological children.

She was a member of the Methodist Church and professed Jesus Christ as her Savior and God. Many times, Delores glorified and shared her love for God by telling the story of how Jesus saved her life on the day her foot was severely broken and severed from her left leg. She would also share the story about June 3, 1980, when Jesus saved the family from tornados that destroyed her home at 608 East Sunset in Grand Island.

Survivors include her husband, William R. O’Brien, of the home; her biological children, Laura Kellogg, of Caney, Kansas, Samuel Reed, of Caney, Kansas, and Carrie Reed, of Joplin, Missouri; her step-children, Sidney Reed, of Dennis, Kansas, Cynthia Reed, of Houston, Texas, and Stan Reed, of Parsons, Kansas; fifteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two sisters, Beverly Thomas and Donna Schomburg, both of Shelton; and two brothers, Doran Burmood, of Shelton, and Kenneth Burmood, of Fort Myers, Florida.
