David “Dave” Vernon Wetzel

David “Dave” Vernon Wetzel, age 61, of Dannebrog, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2024, in Boelus, surrounded by his family, after fighting cancer courageously for four years.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 15, at the Community Center in Cairo. Interment was in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Cairo. Pastor Darrell Holzinger officiated.

Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at alaterdate. Jacobsen-Greenway- Dietz Funeral Home in St.

Paul is assisting Dave’s family.

David was born on June 25, 1963, in Grand Island, to Vernon and Terese (Gravel) Wetzel. He grew up in Polk and graduated from Stromsburg High School in 1981. He was united in marriage to Jennifer Sellmeyer in 1989 and through this marriage they raised four children. He enjoyed going to car shows and being outdoors.

His hobbies included fishing and hunting, along with team roping. He had a particular way of dancing which will forever be remembered by the family.

His greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family. He would have given anything to have more time on this earth with his kids and grandkids. Dave was a family man who will be missed by all who knew him.

Those let to cherish his memory include his children, Justin (Bobbi) Wetzel, of Dannebrog, Nolan Wetzel, of Dannebrog, Taylor Wetzel (Connor Donscheski), of Cairo, and John (Kristi) Wetzel, of Cairo; grandchildren, William, Mackenzie, Hazel, Waylon, and Claycee; brothers, Mike Wetzel (Dianne Danhauer), of Dannebrog, and Craig (Deon) Wetzel, of Dannebrog; sister, Tammy (Daron) Mamot, of St. Libory; sisterin law, Sadie Wetzel, of Cairo; friend, Jennifer Sellmeyer, of Boelus; and nephews and nieces, Shane Wetzel (Brianna Hansen), Cheyenna (Keiotey) Stenhouse, Audrie (Tylor) Robinson, Karlie (Brad) Santin, Hayse Wetzel, Racole Wetzel, Roper Wetzel, Makayla (Will) Smith, Cody (Cydney) Wetzel, Brady Wetzel, and Lindsay Wetzel (Dion Fecht).

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tim Wetzel; and grandparents.
