Dale Abbott

Dale Abbott, age 68, of Gibbon, passed away Thursday, October 21, 2021, in Shelton. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 8, 2021, at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy Funeral Honors Team in conjunction with North Platte Funeral Honors Team.

Dale Lee Abbott was born January 3, 1953, in McCook, to Delbert and Thelma (Zimmerman) Abbott. He was raised in McCook and received his education from McCook High School. Dale entered into the U.S. Navy on January 15, 1971, and proudly served until his honorable discharge in June 7, 1972. On December 21, 1973, Dale was united in marriage to Shirley Vrbas in Atwood, Kansas. He later attended Goodland Vocational Tech school and became a licensed electrician for several years.

Dale enjoyed being outdoors, especially fishing and camping.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Jason Abbott, of Kearney, and Jill (Rodney) Gomez of Kearney; daughter-in-law, Jyl Abbott, of Wyoming; grandchildren, A.J. (Jamie) Abbott, Amy Abbott, Jaden (Victoria) Abbott, Baleigh Abbott, and Ariel and Izaiah Gomez; great-grandchildren, Bennett and Emmett Abbott, and Brentley and Weston Abbott; siblings, Nancy (Ron Cross) Zimmerman, of Mesa, Arizona, and Chuck Campbell, of Phoenix, Arizona; sister-in-law, Julie Abbott, of Aurora, Colorado; niece and nephews, Scott Campbell, Christal Gustafson, and Darin Zimmerman.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; son, Allen Abbott; and brother, Gene Abbott.
