Clifford A. Gangwish

Clifford A. Gangwish, age 91, of Gibbon, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2023, at the Central Nebraska Veterans Home in Kearney surrounded by family. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., tomorrow, Friday, November 3, 2023, at Gibbon Baptist Church with Pastor Taylor Shippy officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon with military honors provided by the Gibbon American Legion Post #310 in conjunction with the U.S. Air Force Funeral Honors Team. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., today, Thursday, at the church.

Clifford was born November 13, 1931, in Holstein to Milton C. and Ella (Young) Gangwish.

He received his education from Gibbon High School, graduating with the class of 1949. Clifford joined the Nebraska Air National Guard and later the United States Air Force. He proudly served from April of 1951, until his honorable discharge in December of 1952. During that time, Clifford earned a clerical degree from Central State College in Oklahoma.

On November 28, 1954, Clifford was united in marriage to Norma “Francey” Brannan at the Eldred Baptist Church in Eldred, Illinois. The couple moved to Gibbon where they made their home in 1954.

Clifford farmed with his dad raising dairy cows, turkeys, beef cattle and hogs as well as sugarbeets, corn, and soybeans until retiring from that in 1991. He also worked as a clerk at the Gibbon Post Office from 1967-1991. He then earned the title as Postmaster until his retirement in 1996.

Clifford was a longtime member of the Gibbon Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and served on numerous boards and committees. He was also an AWANA leader for many years. Cliff enjoyed reading, watching Westerns, collecting stamps, growing yummy tomatoes and sweet corn, woodworking, Nebraska football, working on two-cylinder John Deere tractors, and spending time with family.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Mike Gangwish, of Gibbon, Elaina (Greg) Jones, of Gibbon, and Joe Gangwish of Kearney; grandchildren, Aaron Nutter, Dustin (Angie) Nutter, Courtney Wilhelm, Brian (Madison) Gangwish, Brandon Wallace, Elliot (Kylie) Gangwish, Kylie Wallace, Erika (Brandon) Jessop, and Aubrey Jones; great-grandchildren, Madison, Aiden, Katelyn and Haideyn Nutter, Jamison and Jackson Nutter, Samantha and Hannah Wilhelm, and Weston, Ivan and Logan Gangwish; sister, Fauna Fay Gardner, of Mountain City, Tennessee; brother, Alex (Eulah) Gangwish, of Kearney; sisters-inlaw, Betty Brannan and Eva Lou Brannan, both of Carrollton, Illinois; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Clifford was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Francey Gangwish; sister, Marcia (Harold) Skrdlant; brother, Nick (Marilyn) Gangwish; and brothers-in-law, Clark Gardner, Max Brannan, and James Brannan.
