Clayton Burmood

Clayton Howard Burmood, age 92, of Boonville, Missouri, formerly of the Wood River/ Shelton area, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2026, at Katy Manor in Pilot Grove, Missouri.

An open house memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 19, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island, all are welcome.

Services and interment will be held at a later time in Nebraska.

He was born on September 19, 1933, in Ravenna, the only son of Gaius and Lou Ella (Dixon) Burmood.

Clayton grew up in Wood River, graduating from Wood River High School. He was married to Joan Adele Kikendall in 1953. They raised their four children on a farm near Shelton.

He was a lifelong farmer, often working alongside his father, Gaius. Clayton loved gardening, even having an immaculate garden after retirement. He was a proud veteran who served his country during the Korean War.

He was a huge Nebraska Cornhuskers fan and a dog lover, always having a fourlegged companion by his side.

Clayton is survived by his children, Linda Adair (William), of Boonville, Missouri, Nancy Ragains (Michael), of Springfield, Missouri, and Dean Burmood, of Largo, Florida; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Gary Isom; daughter-in-law, Carol Burmood; and long-term companion, Georgia Lacey.
