Cheré L. Schroeder

Cheré L. Schroeder, age 91, of Papillion, passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2023.

Services were held Tuesday, September 19, 2023, in Papillion with Lynette Janssen officiating. Interment was held at Cedar Dale Cemetery in Papillion.

Memorials are suggested to the Sump Memorial Library in Papillion or the Papillion Order of Eastern Star. Kahler Dolce Funeral Home is serving the family.

Cheré was born July 8, 1932, to Glen and Olga Houdersheldt in Crete.

Cheré graduated from Wayne High School in 1950. She graduated from University of Nebraska with an early childhood degree. She taught in schools in Craig, Geneva, Wood River, Aurora, and Papillion. Cheré and Paul Schroeder were married August 15, 1954, at the Wayne Methodist Church. Their last anniversary celebrated 69 years together.

Husband Paul earned several degrees from University of Nebraska, becoming a school administrator.

After marriage, she taught school music at Wood River and Aurora and always had piano students. She was always

interested in art and reading, and her early life was nourished by pursuing these endeavors.

She also enjoyed being a seamstress.

From an early age, Cheré was a Brownie Scout and leader of many troops and was a camp counselor. She always taught Sunday School, Bible Schools, and led several children’s choirs. In her adult life she became deeply involved in the pursuit of genealogy with her brother, Glen. She was a member of Eastern Star for 60 years, serving many offices and was named Grand Organist for the state-wide conclave. She and Paul traveled widely in the United States. All her life she enjoyed attending the theater, writing plays, and giving school programs. Her last project was publishing a series of children’s books about McGregor the Cat.

She is survived by her loving husband, Paul; children, Stephanie Beideck, of Omaha, and Scott (Nancy), of Adel, Iowa; grandsons, Alex (Sarah) Beideck, Austin(Callie Ray) Schroeder, and Jacob Schroeder; great-grandchildren, August and Lalie Beideck, and Riley Schroeder; nieces, Amy Robertson, Amber Anderson, Rosie Smith, and Paula Johnson; and nephew, Jason Smith.

Cheré was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Paul Sr. and Adah Schroeder; her brother, Glen; sisters-inlaw, Mary Smith and Pam Houdersheldt; and brother-inlaw, Monte Smith.
