Carl Hammond

Carl Hammond, age 72, of Grand Island, passed away Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at CHI Health St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island. Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at Faith United Church in Gibbon with Pastor Mike Evans officiating. Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon.

Carl was born October 3, 1948, to Lawrence and Verna (Vantug) Hammond in Sterling, Colorado. He grew up and received his education in Sterling, Colorado. On May 15, 1970, he was united in marriage to Nancy Kenton in Gibbon. He had a passion for welding and worked for many places over the years. He enjoyed hiking, traveling, and collecting coins and antiques.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Nancy Hammond, of Grand Island; children, Micheala (Todd) Everett, of Atlanta, Kelly Hammond, of Hot Springs, South Dakota, Jeff Hammond, of Grand Island, and Todd (Rachel Hosick) Hammond, of Blair; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Elsie (Dave) Chism, of Denver, Colorado, and Connie (Jim) May, of Sterling, Colorado; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents.
