Arlene R. Slack

Arlene R. Slack, age 87, of Kearney, passed away Monday, January 15, 2024, at Good Samaritan Society - St. John’s in Kearney. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, February 23, at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Inurnment will follow at Kearney Cemetery.

Arlene was born April 1, 1936, in Kearney, to Lawrence and Mary (Musil) Erpelding. She was a lifelong resident of Buffalo County. Arlene graduated from Kearney High School in 1953. On April 12, 1955, she married Earl D. Slack in Kearney. To this union twin sons were born.

Earl and Arlene owned and operated the Shelton Locker for 25 years. Later, Arlene worked for the Buffalo County District Court as deputy clerk for over 20 years, retiring the day before her 80th birthday.

Survivors include her sons, Tim Slack, of Kearney, and Jim (Joyce) Slack, of Kearney; grandchildren, Craig (Jodi) Slack and their children, Noelle, Zane, Tate and Everlyn, Kyle (Echo) Slack and their children, Emerson, Canyon, Scout, Brooks and Bodhi, and McKenzie Slack and her son, Devin; sisters-in-law, Pam Slack, Elaine Slack, and Pat Slack; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Arlene was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Marjorie Detter and Doris Mays; and brothers, Bernard Erpelding, Donald Erpelding, and Melvin Erpelding.
