Ivan Bombeck

Ivan K. Bombeck, age 81, of Kearney, died Tuesday, September 1, at Kearney Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

Services were held Tuesday, September 8, at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island. Dan Naranjo officiated. Military rites were held after the service. Burial was in the Kenesaw Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Zion Lutheran Church or the Central Nebraska Veterans Home, where he lived prior to his death.

Ivan was born June 26, 1945, in Kearney, the son of Kenneth and Bessie (Elliott) Bombeck. He graduated from Shelton High School in 1964. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966-68, including a tour in Vietnam.

He farmed with his dad in Shelton, drove a grain truck for Walnut Grove for 13 years, and worked in maintenance at Centennial Apartments, Platte Valley Propane, Morris Press and Perkins in Kearney.

A member of Zion Lutheran Church in Kearney, he was active in barbershop singing, bowling, and dancing. He supported the Nebraska Cornhuskers, especially football, baseball and basketball.

Ivan enjoyed Vietnam Veterans’ reunions, westerns and casino trips, being with family and friends, and playing cards and Bingo.

Survivors include Janet Bombeck, Marilyn Bombeck, Jeanette and Jim Dean, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Larry and Don.
