Marie L. Fitzgerald

Marie L. Fitzgerald, age 84, of Gibbon, passed away February 4, 2026. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m.

Saturday, April 25, at Walker Hall in Gibbon.

Marie was born on February 19, 1941, to Bob and Valeria (Zigler) Griffin in Grand Island and raised on a farm north of Gibbon until her parents bought Farmers Café. Marie graduated from Gibbon High School in 1959. Marie did clerical and accounting work most of her life. She did individual income tax returns for several people in the community. She retired from Gibbon Pack at 66 years old.

In 1973, the Griffin sisters moved in together and helped each other raise their children. Many friends and family members will miss the comfort of stopping by and finding her with a cup of coffee at the kitchen table.

Survivors include her daughters, Jimel (Kourtney) Cooksley, of Chadron, and Lynelle “Pokie” (Tim) Oliver, of Shelton; sister, Etha Griffin, of Gibbon; nephew, Michael (Jen) Griffin, of Evans Colorado; niece, Anita (Ryan) Smith, of Kearney; seven grandkids; and eight great-grandkids; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bill Griffin.
